Morley Borough Independent Councillors have backed Leeds City Councils policy on issuing enforcement notices on untidy shops at Morley Bottoms. The Councillors reconfirmed their support after a Leeds Court rejected an application from a shop owner to throw out the enforcement notice served on them. Cllr Robert Finnigan said "We believe that those owners who allow their shop fronts to become run down should be held accountable for their actions. The Courts support our view and we will be looking to use the same firm approach on other uncooperative owners." |

The law allows Councils to serve Section 215 notices on untidy properties which obliges the owners to tidy up their shop fronts. Cllr Judith Elliott, chairman of the Morley Town Centre Partnership said "We are totally committed to the regeneration of Morley Bottoms and we will use all legal options available to us to make sure the legal obligations on untidy shop owners are complied with." The Enforcement Programme is part of a bigger plan for Morley Bottoms which could form a multi million pound regeneration scheme. |
