Problem Traffic Island to go

A problem traffic island on Gelderd Road is to be removed following a long campaign by Morley Borough Independent Councillors. The island, at the junction with Asquith Avenue and Branch End, will be removed to assist with traffic flow.

Cllr Tom Leadley said "This has been a problem junction for many years. Motorists turning right into Asquith Avenue often block the rest of the traffic travelling along Gelderd Road to Leeds. This leads to unnecessary congestion at this location."

Councillors first raised the issue several years ago and the improvement is part of a study of traffic flow which will take account the improvements being undertaken at Gildersome Roundabout.

Cllr Bob Gettings, a Gildersome resident said "This will make this location much safer and will contribute to better and smoother traffic flow. Local residents, who have previously raised their frustration about this junction, will welcome this improvement."
