 Operation Champion in Drighlington

Morley Borough Independent Councillors took part in Operation Champion in Drighlington recently. They joined Police Officers, Police Community Support Officers, DVLA staff and Customs and Excise Officers on a two-day campaign in Drighlington which will clamp down on anti-social behaviour, tax evaders and environmental offences. Operation Champion, which is a partnership between Leeds City Council and West Yorkshire Police, undertakes work in communities to promote crime reduction strategies along with targeting known offenders and reducing fly tipping and other offences.

Councillor Robert Finnigan said, “I am delighted this crime fighting initiative is to be brought to Drighlington. We will see intense activity during the two day operation which will include home visits from crime reduction officers along with a targeting of offenders such as road tax evaders and those people who have not paid their court fines.”

The operation was previously carried out on the Newlands Estate in Morley and was hailed as a success by local residents.

Councillor Bob Gettings said, “The important point to stress is that we all have a role in reducing crime levels in our local area. This can mean making our homes more difficult to break in to as well as providing the Police with information to enable them to target and punish offenders. Councillors will be joining the operation to support the work being done across this partnership.”
