Morley prepares to Remember

The people of Morley are once again getting ready to hold the Festival of Remembrance on behalf of Leeds City Council.

Morley Town Hall is once again to host the Leeds City Council Festival of Remembrance which will take place on Friday 9th November from 7.30pm.

This years Festival will see readings given by, amongst others,  The Lord Lieutenant for the County of West Yorkshire, Dr Ingrid M Roscoe, The Lord Mayor of The City of Leeds Councillor Brian Cleasby, The Leader of Leeds City Council Councillor Mark Harris, Iraq veteran Corporal Simon Brown and  the Mayor of Morley Councillor Joyce Sanders.

The new Buergermeister of Siegen Steffen Mues will be called upon to light a candle in remembrance of those who have been killed or injured during times of conflict. It will be Herr Mues first visit to Leeds since becoming Buergermeister.

Local School Children will take part in the Festival, performing musical pieces and the Salvation Army Band will accompany community  hymn singing.

Chairman of the Festival of Remembrance Committee Councillor Terry Grayshon (MBI Morley South) commented   “Last year was the first Festival of Remembrance to the be held in Morley  and it was an overwhelming success.  Once again, Morley Town Hall will be the venue for the City Of Leeds Festival of Remembrance, it is an ideal venue for this kind of event.  The theme for this years Festival is the 80th anniversary  of the dedication of the War Memorial in Scatcherd Park, Morley. The memorial is as important today as it was 80 years ago and we remember the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice.  I am particularly pleased, that this year we will be joined by Iraq Veteran Corporal Simon Brown.  Now more than ever we need to remember those who have been injured in conflict and ensure that we honour the Covenant we have with the armed forces.”

Tickets, which are free of charge, for the event are available from the One Stop Shop in Morley Town Hall or by telephoning 0113 2477538.

A Service of Remembrance will also take place at the War Memorial in Scatcherd Park Morley at 11am on Sunday 11th November 2007.  The parade will form up outside of Morley Town Hall at 10.30am.
