A school, which residents believe needs planning permission, has been forced to make a planning application after Morley Borough Independent Councillors requested Leeds City Council Officers to commence enforcement action against the school. Meadowcroft, a school run by a private company, operates from a former residential house at Tingley Common in Morley. Councillor Judith Elliott, who raised the issue with Leeds City Council Planning Officers last year said |

"We now have the opportunity to have the operation of this establishment considered through the planning process. I believe that operating a school in a residential house breaches planning rules and I will be lodging an objection on this basis." The school failed to make a planning application before it opened stating that it was not necessary for any permission to be granted for the school to operate. The new planning application follows action taken by Councillor Robert Finnigan to direct the Legal Services section at Leeds City Council to commence vigorous enforcement action against the school. Councillor Terry Grayshon said "We believe this is the wrong location for this type of establishment and we are encouraging the company that runs Meadowcroft to discuss with us suitable alternative sites. We are supporting local residents with their concerns and we are asking local people to let us know what they think." The final decision will be taken at a full meeting of the Plans Panel at a meeting later this Spring. Update The certificate of Lawfulness has been declined by Leeds City Council Planners |
