Peter Lane Caravans must be removed

Updated with Link to Planning Inspectorate

The sight at Peter Lane Morley A field  owned by the Earl of Dartmouth and occupied  by caravan dwellers must be returned to it's intended purpose within six months.  That's the finding of an appeal to enforcement action taken by Leeds City Council following a campaign by Morley Borough Independent Councillors Judith Elliott and Terry Grayshon.

The Planning Inspectorate has ruled that the  current use for the land is in breach of Planning Law and as such must be returned to it's original use.

Local Residents had complained about Anti-Social Behaviour connected to the residents of the caravans

as well as barking dogs, the unsightly mess of the area and the comings and goings at all hours.

Councillors Elliott and Grayshon took up the concerns of local residents, some of whom were afraid to come forward for fear of reprisals.  Councillor Elliott said " The Peter Lane Site is quite appalling and has been so for some time.  No one appeared to want to deal with the issue prior to Councillor Grayshon and myself being elected, so it was starting from scratch.  It is not acceptable that people who live in the Peter Lane Area are having their quality of life so effected by this kind of thing."

Ward colleague Councillor Terry Grayshon added  " We were aware of the problems with Peter Lane for some time and had been working on a multi agency approach to deal with the situation, we even spoke to senior staff at the Land Agents of Lord Dartmouth in the hope they could resolve the issued, however they were experiencing difficulties too.  We then took the decision to use the planning laws to remove those occupying the land and were successful.  We have had a number of people thanking us for dealing with the matter.  As with all things legal it does take a long time, not least because no one had tackled the situation before."
