Morley Borough Independent Councillors Robert Finnigan and Judith Elliott have brought about the early closure of a troublesome local pub following complaints made by local residents. The Last Orders Inn on Station Road Morley had become a magnet for Anti Social Behaviour, involving fighting and and a series of complaints about selling alcohol to underage drinkers. Morley Borough Independent Councillor Robert Finnigan said both city and town councillors were pleased with the result. "Morley Town Council
is the first non-police body across the Leeds area to use this process to
deal with the problem of excessive alcohol consumption," he said. Morley Town Council
requested the licensing review following letters of complaint from
residents of Morley Bottoms who said their lives were being made a misery
by late night revellers and frequent fights that left them having to clear
up blood, broken glass and vomit. |
The first ever Morley Literature Festival has been voted an overwhelming success by those many people who attended. The Festival was the brainchild of Morley Borough Independent Councillor Judith Elliott who was astounded by the numbers of people attending the event. " I am so very pleased the event has attracted so many people to our Town." Said Councillor Elliott. "It goes to prove that Morley can host such events and that they will be successful" she continued. Crowds flocked to both Morley Town Hall and Morley Library to take part in a number of Workshops, film shows, talks and readings by well known authors. The event was a huge success. Councillor Robert Finnigan said " The Literary Festival in Morley was a resounding success and that is down to Councillor Judith Elliott who chaired the organising committee, she was even an event Steward over the weekend !" Plans are now being drafted for next year's Morley Literature Festival, which will again take place in Morley Town Hall and Morley Library. "Next Year it will be bigger and better" commented Councillor Judith Elliott. |
Morley Borough Independent Councillors' Judith Elliott and Terry Grayshon have helped users of the Hesketh Lane Recreation Ground in Tingley form a Friends of Group, following concerns over the site. Councillor Judith Elliott who lives in the area and as a child played on the rec said " For some time we have been aware of the problems faced by users of the recreation ground and in particular the Play Area, which has seen better days. We felt that the users of would perhaps like to see some changes and contacted local residents about the formation of a friends group. I am pleased to say a number came forward and the group has now been established" Fellow MBI Councillor Terry Grayshon supported the formation of the "Friends Group" commenting " It is always helpful to our campaigns when we get the "buy in" of the local community, they are the ones who use this facility and can really tell us what they would like to see happen.
