Councillors delight at Government u turn

Morley Borough Independent Councillors have welcomed a u turn in Government guidance which will return Councillors rights to speak at schools admissions appeals. The Government had issued new guidance which specifically excluded councillors from appeal hearings claiming that they would not present a fair case.

Cllr Robert Finnigan, who campaigned against the exclusion guidance said "I am delighted we have been able to persuade the Government to think again on this matter. It should be a Councillors right to speak up for the parents and children in the area they represent"

Morley Borough Independent Councillors have represented at over 50 schools admissions appeals and led the

campaign to obtain a Morley high school place for every Morley child.

Cllr Finnigan said "I wrote to the Education Secretary Ed Balls to raise our concerns along with many other councillors. I am pleased he has listened to these common sense representations and reversed the decision he initially made."
