In a bizarre attempt at what can only be described as a witch hunt, the only British National Party Town Councillor in Morley has reported former Mayor and charity worker Judith Elliott to the Standards Board for England. The Board, which regulates the behaviour of elected members in the Country have refused to launch any investigation following allegations made by solitary BNP Town Councillor Joanna Beverley. Mrs Beverley alleged that Councillor Elliott had abused her position as Chairwoman of a local residents association by asking Beverley to leave the meeting. Beverley had not been invited to the meeting and claimed to be representing her husband, Leeds City Councillor Chris Beverley. However, local residents had asked who Beverley was and why she was at the meeting. Some were uncomfortable with her being there, as she was not invited and does not represent the ward covered by the residents group. As Beverley was not invited, does not represent the area in which the residents group operate and could not be a substitute for her husband. Councillor Elliott, under the instruction of committee members, invited her to leave. |

In her allegation to the Standards Board, Beverley, accused Councillor Elliott of and abusing her position as Chairman of the meeting and claims she was asked to leave because she is a member of another political group. The Standards Boards declined to investigate the allegation. A number of allegations have been made to the Standards Board by complainants with close connections to the BNP in Morley. Former Mayor Bob Gettings has been referred a number of times, on each occasion the Board has declined to investigate. Councillor Terry Grayshon, has, likewise been referred on a number of occasions by people who hold BNP sympathies. Again the Standards Board has refused to launch any investigation. Similarly Councillor Robert Finnigan has been reported by a known BNP sympathiser. Once more the allegations were found not to require any investigation. It appears the BNP will use any method to try and intimidate hard working Councillors who do not agree with their views, to say nothing of burdening the taxpayer with the cost of dealing with their unwarranted complaints.
