Councillors gear up for Housing Plan Appeal

Update:  The developer proposing to build on the site has withdrawn their appeal against refusal of planning permission and the site will remain as it currently is.

Morley Borough Independent Councillors are gearing up to speak against Developers wanting to build over 200 houses on the Orcol Industrial site on Station Road Morley. The application, which was refused by Leeds City Councils Plan Panel last year, will be heard at a Public Enquiry to be held in Leeds next month.

Councillor Judith Elliott, who opposed the application said "I will be speaking against this application during the three day hearing. The application is unacceptable on highways, safety and over intensity grounds. The Plans Panel were right to refuse this application and I will be making sure the Planning Inspector is clear about the strength of local opposition to this application."

Leeds City Council refused the application after receiving objections from Morley Town Council and several residents on the Croft House Estate.

Councillor Robert Finnigan, who will also attend the Hearing said "If we allow housing development on industrial land then there will be more pressure to release greenfield sites for industrial estates. This is not acceptable and we will draw the Inspectors attention to these concerns."
