Morley Borough Independent Councillors were celebrating the announcement that a zebra crossing is to be constructed near Westerton School close to the Westerton Road junction with Upper Green Way. This follows other news that the conditions for a crossing by Fountain Street Primary School were also satisfied and that the proposal will now go into a process to find the finance to implement it. Cllr Judith Elliott, who has campaigned for both crossings, said "I am delighted at this news. Both crossings are needed to make sure children and other pedestrians can cross these busy roads safely." The Westerton Road crossing should be implemented shortly while the Fountain Road proposal will be considered in the new financial year in April. Cllr Terry Grayshon said "We have been pleased at the support we have received from both Westerton and Fountain primary schools and local residents. We are convinced that both crossings will put the needs of school children and pedestrians first and assist in reducing traffic speeds at these locations." |
